BACK 2U

Pre-launch · iOS, Android & web

Lost something? Someone nearby probably has it.

BACK 2U connects the person who lost an item with the person who found it — anonymously, in the neighbourhood where it went missing. No lost-property queues, no public shaming, no exposing your details.

The problem

Most lost things are found. Almost none get returned.

A stranger picks up your bag, waits a while, then has nowhere sensible to take it. You post in three neighbourhood groups, phone a transit office, and describe the same keys to five different people. Both of you want the same outcome and neither of you can find the other — so the item sits in a drawer, and you replace it.

How it works

Two short paths to the same handover

If you lost something

Post it once, then let the map work

1Describe what's missingPhoto, category and the area you last had it. Two minutes, no account details.
2Everyone nearby is alertedPeople within 500 m of that area see your post next time they open the app.
3Get a match, talk anonymouslyFound items within 2 km are checked against your report for 60 days. When one lines up, chat in-app and agree a public place to meet.
If you found something

Hand it back without giving anything away

1Post only the basicsCategory, area and time go public. Your photo and description stay private.
2Let them prove itClaimants describe the item to you in chat. Fakers can't, because they can't see it.
3Reveal and returnHappy it's theirs? Share the photo, meet somewhere public, done.

Why BACK 2U

Built for the awkward part — proving it's yours

Claims you can actually verify

Found posts hide the photo and description, so the real owner is the one who can describe it.

Radius alerts, not another feed

You're notified about things lost or found around you — not everything, everywhere.

Automatic matching

Every new found post is checked against open lost reports within 2 km, for 60 days.

Optional rewards

Offer one if you want to. It's arranged between the two of you — we never take a cut.

Works where you lost it

Pin a place, or describe a moving one — a bus route, a train, a rideshare.

Trust & safety

Anonymous by default, safe by design

Returning something shouldn't cost you your privacy. Nobody sees your name, your number or your address — at any point, including after a successful handover.

Pseudonyms, alwaysYou are given a display name. Your real name and email are never shown to anyone.
You choose the pinMark where the item was, not where you live. We never ask for an address.
Report and block in one tapBlocked people can't see your posts or message you again, ever.
Meet-in-public guidanceEvery chat opens with the safety basics: public place, no ID numbers, no deposits.

FAQ

Questions we get asked first

Be there the day it goes live

We're opening BACK 2U city by city — the waitlist decides the order. One email when your area is live, nothing else.
